Xmas Medal Little Lakes December 29th 2006
Well what a turnout for the annual Christmas Medal, and what a test for all those brave enough to take on the challenge! New captain Neville welcomed 36 intrepid/foolish golfers to Little Lakes on the last Friday of the year, and thanks to that well known law, having had two weeks of no rain, we had a day of rain and gale force winds to contend with on top of our hangovers.
It was fantastic to see so many new faces enjoying another superbly run day, the committee really do deserve more credit than we playing members give them, but back to the golf. The shortened course held up remarkably well, with the wind providing a tough additional challenge, and any lapse in concentration was likely to be punished by a “blob” on the scorecard. It is a measure of the standard of our society that well over a third of the field returned over 30 stableford points, and leading this field was “Wave goodbye to that ridiculous handicap” Robbie Davies (obviously relaxed having ended his term of office) with a stunning 39 point return. He was followed in by Rob Slater and then singles champion Tim Kilby.
The fines committee were in ruthless form, giving the new Captains Charity a kick-start, and if we can keep up these numbers then another worthy cause can benefit from our splendid days out. Keep your eyes peeled for the next events coming up and lets see you all soon, if you have recovered from the pneumonia?
