With the build up to the weekend blighted by heavy
rain, and the forecast of mixed weather for the climax of our season, we set
off on the 2-hour journey to Builth more in hope than expectation. At the end
of the journey we were greeted by our customary welsh welcome and short sleeve
shirt weather.
It is a measure of the importance we place on this
competition, that so many of the qualifiers made themselves available to play,
and the we were greeted by a course in superb conditions, especially for the
time of year.
Keith Taylor provided the early clubhouse lead a net
70, soon followed my Chairman Amphlett who appeared to have achieved his
declared ambition to put his name on this trophy with a net 67. This was until
Dave Phillips snatched the trophy on count back with a net 70 but a better back
nine. This was all the more credit worthy, as Dave had to contend with the
worst of the predicted showers for much of the back nine. Well-done Dave!
Thanks must go to Juan for his wonderful hospitality
and wine, and to old society friend Roger for driving the minibus all that way.
We hope Roy’s sobbing did not disturb you too much on the way home.
It has been a long time since we played this course.
Lets us hope that it is not so long before we are back again.
See you next season chaps, when the qualification for
the Angel Cup starts again, and Dave, enjoy the meal.
