VAX and Alpha System Emulation

Maindec are experts in both VAX and Alpha system emulators. We can supply, configure, migrate running VAX and Alpha systems onto emulators that run within a Windows environment. These systems will run on both Windows 2003 or 2008. Customers can migrate their running operating systems and applications with absolutely no code changes. In many cases the emulators will run many times faster than the original system, typically between 10 to 30 times faster. The emulators can still be used to run DECnet and LAT all running at 100Mb or 1Gb through modern LAN adapters.

Maindec is a reseller for the Avanti - Alpha System emulator provided by Migration Specialties in the USA. This software will exactly emulate an HP Alpha Server 400 and runs on a 64 bit Windows installation. The original Alpha disks are mapped to files within the Windows file system or can be mapped to other physical disks. This makes it incredibly easy to backup and migrate between servers.

Avanti will also run within a VMware environment and has been fully tested using the VMotion/Live Migration features of VMware, which allows a live Alpha system to be moved without shutting down between different physical servers.

Avanti will run either OpenVMS and Tru64 Unix and the latest version supports multiple instances of the emulator running on one server.
